This series is lessons from Elijah. Learning through experience definitely makes an impression. We can all learn from hard knocks, but it’s a lot less painful to learn by example. First Corinthians 10:6 and 11 say that the experiences of those in the Bible were recorded for our examples. Elijah’s story is full of great examples, both good and bad.
07 Andrew continues his series on Lessons from Elijah.
03 There’s a lot of people today that think Christians ought to just stay within their four walls, and not have any influence outside of their church. However, Christians, like Elijah, should be influencing society.
55 Elijah was influencing the entire nation, because he had a word from God, and he was bold enough to proclaim it.
49 Jesus is the only way. (John 14:6) “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
31 When people proclaim the true word of God, miracles happen. Blind eyes are opened. A little girl was raised from the dead, in Belize, while our students were there on missions trip. What I am saying is not just theory, it is something that is demonstrated. We are seeing the power of God flow in people’s lives, and changing them. Not only physical, but emotional changes are being made. We’re seeing people born-again, and being baptized in the Holy Spirit.
30 False religion always operates on one’s own efforts and sacrifices. False religion doesn’t just approach God based on what Jesus has done, and simply appropriate and receive the miracle. Instead, they have to offer themselves as a sacrifice. They have to put their own works into the mix. A true minister of God doesn’t sit there and offer his holiness, and his godliness. And, he doesn’t have to make his sacrifice. It’s not him that’s moving God.
10 This is the message of the Bible: there is a heaven to be gained, and there is a hell to be shunned, and there is only one way to God, and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ, through the atonement He made.
59 Fasting and prayer affects us. It affects our hardened heart, our unbelief. It does not make God more prone to move. And if you’re approaching it that way, thinking you have to do all these things to move God, then you’re doing the same thing that these prophets of Baal did, when they leapt on the altar, and cut themselves thinking that maybe Baal will send a fire now if it costs me my life. (i Kings 18:26, 28)
43 I’m telling you that Jesus paid it all, and all you have to do is believe on him. (Romans 10:8-9)
15 If you want to see the fire of God fall in your life, you need to have an altar. I’m not talking about a physical altar. I’m saying that you need to prepare your heart. You need to make yourself a living sacrifice as it says in Romans 12:1. You need to present yourself, and say, ‘God, here am I. I’m a living sacrifice.’ And, you can’t put any fire under it. You can’t do this yourself. You can’t, in your own strength, make yourself be consumed by God, but you can get up on the altar.
02 We need to be a living sacrifice, and a continual sacrifice. Committed to God, constantly, every moment of every day. And, we lay ourself on the altar, but we’ve got to have the supernatural fire of God fall. Only God can change your heart.
00 In your own life, you need to prepare an altar. You need to to make yourself a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). And, you need to ask for this fire of God to fall .
