This series is lessons from Elijah. Learning through experience definitely makes an impression. We can all learn from hard knocks, but it’s a lot less painful to learn by example. First Corinthians 10:6 and 11 say that the experiences of those in the Bible were recorded for our examples. Elijah’s story is full of great examples, both good and bad.
06 Andrew continues his series on Lessons from Elijah.
34 Everything Elijah had done for three and a half years was a 100% success. (1 Kings 17, 18) Then, after these great string of successes, we see Elijah’s downfall.
08 Elijah had stood up to the king, the armies, and to the entire nation. He had been fearless, but now he fled from a woman with a note. (1 Kings 19:2) The reason for it is because he saw himself dead. (1 Kings 19:3)…”when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.”
52 (1 Kings 19:4) “…it is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” This says that at one time he thought he was better than his fathers. This is a tremendous revelation, and it shows why he became susceptible to fear and unbelief, and ran. It is because he was actually lifted up in pride thinking, ‘look what I have done.’
09 One of the main characteristics of humility is absolute dependence upon God. Elijah had done so many things that no one had ever done. He raised the first person from the dead, that was ever recorded in Scripture. (1 Kings 17:19-22) He called for the first drought, and he ended it. (1Kings 17:1; 18:4-45) He called fire down from heaven (1 Kings 18:19-38) Elijah became susceptible, and he was lifted up in pride.
10 One of you’re weakest times, when you are the most vulnerable, is when everything seems to have gone good, and everybody is singing you praises. You better go out of your way to keep yourself anchored, and grounded in the Lord, and recognize that it is God who has done all of these things.
58 The moment you start taking glory for yourself, you are headed down. Jesus said this in the new covenant. He says, ‘it’s not me that does this. It’s my Father that does this. (John 14:10) He refused to take glory and credit, and yet He was God manifest in the flesh. He constantly kept himself dependent on the Father.
58 There’s a lot of people who think they are the only real messenger of God in a city, and yet it is never true. Elijah said he was the only true prophet of God left, and that wasn’t true. (1 Kings 18:13; 18:22)
43 (Proverbs 16:18) “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” The moment you get swelled up with how awesome are, it’s just a matter of time until you hit the ground.
18 One of the reasons that you haven’t seen promotions and successes is that you just aren’t able to handle it. You’re not ready for it, and It would destroy you. You’d be lifted up with pride.
45 This is something that is hard for some people to grab hold of, because as they get used of the Lord, and as they grow in the Lord, they think somehow it’s because they are better. Yet, the truth is that growth in the Christian life isn’t you getting stronger and better, but it’s you recognizing more and more your own inabilities and weaknesses, and turn away from yourself, as you become more and more dependent upon God.
24 Your flesh isn’t getting better. Your carnality isn’t getting less. You are getting more and more dependent on the Sprit of the God, and you’re not relying on your carnal natural self. But, if you step out of your dependence on God, and you get back into yourself, you’re going to fall.
21 I saw, first hand, what pride and arrogance had done to me before. I saw what pride had done to Elijah and other people. So, I was fearful that if I really saw God expanding my ministry, and giving me the reach that I knew He had called me to do, I was afraid it would cause me to get lifted up with pride, and cause me to quit depending on God. Because of this, I was limiting God.
35 You are susceptible to Satan lifting you up with pride so if you are successful give the glory to God and remain humble & links to next video.
