Week of Prayer Day 6 | Deliver Us From Evil
“And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’ For Yours is the kingdom, power, glory, forever amen.”—Matthew 6:13
Summary: Today, Rachael Bernardi walks us through the importance of first choosing humility before the Lord as we pray the Lord’s Prayer, reminding us that the moment we forgive others (Matthew 6:12), we are released from the torment of anger and bitterness that results from unforgiveness. (See Matthew 18:21-35). But our moment of greatest victory is often followed by the enemy trying to trip us up again, whether through feel-good sin or something more familiar, like choosing to be offended again.
When Jesus taught us to pray, “And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil,” He was teaching us about watchful prayer, staying alert to the enemy’s attacks, standing firm in our faith, knowing God’s truth. And we know God’s truth by meditating on God’s Word and letting it renew our minds, changing us from the inside out. (See Romans 12:1-2).
One practical way of meditating on God’s Word is to choose a passage and make it a prayer, praying Scripture out loud, agreeing with God in prayer. Above all, it is essential to remember that our sovereign Lord God protects and delivers us. For Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever! Amen.
Question: What is a weakness or tendency you need God’s help with? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what your next step is concerning what He revealed to you. Ask yourself, “Why does my acknowledgment of God’s supremacy matter?” and journal about it.
Prayer Starter: Choose a passage of Scripture today and pray it back to God. Suggested Scriptures: 1 Peter 5:6-9; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 6:10-17; Philippians 4:4-9; Psalm 23.
