The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army,“doing the most good” through millions of volunteers in more than 100 countries worldwide by serving hot meals to those in need, providing assistance in times of natural disaster, and establishing hospitals, rehab programs, and community centers!
It was in London’s East End in 1865, where poverty painted a grim scene, that Methodist preacher William Booth and his wife, Catherine, first established The Christian Mission, renamed The Salvation Army in 1878.
Confronted with indifference and often resistance to his work, Booth said: “'Not called!' did you say? ‘Not heard the call,’ I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible . . . put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity . . .listen to its . . . wail for help!”
The Salvation Army—today serving over twenty-five million people across the globe!
