MARK 1: The Beginning of Jesus' Ministry | Illustrated Bible | CEV Bible (1/16)
The chapter begins with John the Baptist preaching repentance and baptizing people in the Jordan River. He foretells the coming of someone mightier than himself. Jesus then arrives and is baptized by John. Afterward, the Spirit descends on Jesus, and a heavenly voice acknowledges him as God's Son. Jesus then spends forty days in the desert, tempted by Satan but assisted by angels.
Following John's arrest, Jesus starts his ministry in Galilee, proclaiming the Kingdom of God. He calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John as his first disciples. In Capernaum, Jesus amazes people with his authoritative teachings and heals many, including casting out demons and curing Simon's mother-in-law's fever. News about him spreads. Despite seeking solitude for prayer, Jesus continues his ministry across Galilee, healing the sick, including a leper, who publicizes the miracle, drawing even more people to Jesus.
