Black History Month | Jason Talks with Sam Collier
"We are all a result of our history. The lives that we're living now didn't just start when we were born." We see the statistics of teen pregnancies, fatherlessness, and the wealth disparity between black and white communities, but we disassociate those statistics from the possibility that social constructs may actually foster and promote those statistics. Why? Is it because it causes introspection? Is it because we're trying to protect the honor of our ancestors? Could it even be because we don't want it to change?
Today we're giving you a bonus episode of Jason Talks to celebrate Black History Month. Jason is sitting down with the Lead Pastor of Hillsong Atlanta, Sam Collier. Sam has been a great friend to Amplify Church and Jason and AJ over the past several years, making regular visits to Pittsburgh to speak at Amplify and share his heart for God with this community.
Take a few minutes to listen to this powerful conversation about why Sam is so passionate to plant a church that eliminates the concept of racial divide. Is it possible to build a church that leads the way on how to exist without such a disparity? We believe it's our responsibility to shed light on these issues and to stand behind the members of our community who are unheard. But it starts with acknowledging that there is a problem. If we cannot accept that fact, then we are justifying to ourselves that it is acceptable to ignore sons and daughters of God who are broken. Caring for our brothers and sisters is not political. It is our calling.
