In 2014 at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, the world’s attention was on the Chinese Short Track Speed Skating team—winning two gold medals, three silver medals, and the bronze. And the team’s coach, Li Yan, was considered one of the world’s most successful short track speed skating coaches, leading the team to two Winter Olympics with a record-breaking six gold medals.

Li Yan has also been open about the importance of the Bible in her life. In a magazine interview she candidly admitted the pressures of competitive skating, but spoke of a verse in the Bible that’s particularly meaningful for her: “Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead”—a verse from Philippians, she says, that helped her deal with the pressure.
