Week of Prayer Day 3 | Your Kingdom Come
“Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”—Matthew 6:10
Summary: In today’s look at The Lord’s Prayer, this verse is the second time Jesus mentions “heaven” in this very short prayer, reminding us that heaven is our eternal home. In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus modeled this prayer for us when He prayed to the Father, “Not My will but Yours be done.”
Because He prayed that prayer, submitting to the will of the Father, we now have forgiveness and eternal life! And three decades prior to this moment, his mother, Mary, prayed the same prayer when the Holy Spirit visited her to tell her she was going to have a baby. This ordinary woman who said yes to God gave birth to the Savior of all mankind.
When we say yes to the will of God, as ordinary people agreeing to do God’s will, He can (and will!) use us to birth something that we would never dream could have happened. So in submission, let's be like Mary who said, “Here I am! I'm your servant. Let it be done to me according to your word.”
Question: Where “on earth” do you want God’s ways and will to increase and reign in your life?
Prayer Starter: Take some time today to get quiet before the Lord, setting your agenda and requests aside and surrendering to God as your Lord and King, submitting to His will and way in your life. Stay in a place of humble submission as you read His Word, listen to His voice, and sincerely pray, “Let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Spend time today interceding for your family, our church, our community, our state, and our nation.
