How we respond to our earthly fathers has tremendous bearing on how we will respond to our Heavenly Father. Now, we all have had fathers, and they have parented us in varying degrees of effectiveness. Regardless of that, our God-assignment is to honor them. Now, you need to know you can honor someone without approving of everything they do. You get this, fundamentally. You will give respect to athletes because of their physical prowess in participating in some athletic event, but you’re not necessarily putting your stamp of approval on their character. We do that with athletes, and we do that with celebrities, and with many others — we show them respect or honor, understanding their lives are fractured.
