Training Bible Translators in Papua New Guinea
In Papua New Guinea, the remaining need for Bible translation is extensive. Approximately 100 languages currently have translation projects in process and another 300 are waiting to start. To help address these needs, Wycliffe has created a special training program to help prepare local people to do the work. It trains mother-tongue speakers to work as translators, and is designed to bring out the natural strengths of those best suited to translate the Bible into their language. Local speakers learn, translate and revise their work to provide the Bible for their communities. And in the process, they are likely to grow closer to the Lord and encourage others in their communities to do the same.
Wycliffe’s mission is to see a Bible translation program in progress in every language still needing one by 2025.
