In this week’s edition of Politics Today, we will be discussing the awful invasion of the Ukraine by Russian forces and what is the first full scale invasion of an Independent European sovereign nation for over eighty years. We have witnessed horrific scenes of schools, hospitals and apartment blocks deliberately bombed by the Russian Army.

We have witnessed the trepidation of NATO forces of directly intervening in the war in fear that it could spark a nuclear conflict with Russia. Military analysists in Britain and the West believed that conventional warfare was consigned to the history books with the collapse of the Soviet Union. But Russia’s unprovoked invasion of the Ukraine is forcing the West to revaluate its military and diplomatic response to Russia’s aggression.

The big moral question that Britain and the West must answer is the invasion of the Ukraine a big wakeup call for the West as we have become too complacent to the Russian threat to Western Civilisation. We have empowered Putin by becoming dependant on Russian oil and gas as in our pursuit of renewable energy has left us extremely vulnerable that has also dramatically driven up the cost of living.

The war in the Ukraine has also exposed the west’s morality by been oppressed with ultra-liberal values and this should be a wake up call for us to return to our Christian foundations.
