Liberty Football Feature Walk Ons
Today's feature takes an inside look at the walk on process, detailing the journeys that offensive lineman Jonathan Burgess and running back Austin Kaigler took to join Liberty's roster.
Burgess transferred to Liberty from Virginia State and joined Liberty's roster as a walk on during the fall of 2013. He quickly made an impact on the team, starting nine contests at left guard that season and earning Big South second-team all-conference and VaSID second-team all-state honors as a sophomore.
During the offseason, the Stafford, Va., native set a new program record for an offensive lineman with a 385 pound power clean and he was named one of our team captains. He has started all seven games at left guard this season and has helped Liberty rush for 17 touchdowns and average 429.3 total offensive yards per game.
Kaigler came to Liberty from Westminster Christian Academy near his hometown of Huntsville, Ala. He was added to the roster as a walk on in 2012, but did not see any playing time his first year with the program.
