I Have a Dream
When Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his now iconic “I Have a Dream Speech,” it was a defining moment in the civil rights movement.
It was a speech rich in biblical language, as he quoted from numerous biblical passages including Amos 5:24: “No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream" and from Isaiah 40:“I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low. The rough places will be made plain and the crooked places will be made straight.”
Martin Luther King Jr. used biblical language to inspire a generation to stand up to injustice and to hope for a better future.
