In fact Rick says "Like everyone else in this world, I made choices through free will and suffered the consequences of those choices ... Personally, I needed to return to the God of my youth before I could beat my addiction. It was a bitter cold early winter morning in 1993 - that found Rick in the Hospital after attempting to take his life.
