From the Cafeteria to the Cover of TIME Magazine | Serving on the COVID Frontline
"I'm just a server. I love serving my church, my community, the kids at my school. This is how God made me," said Yolanda Fisher. Three months ago, she was a cafeteria manager at T. W. Brown Middle School within Dallas ISD.
Today, she leads a group of 5 women that prepares and distributes 21,000 meals to her community every Thursday. When the district closed campuses across Dallas, she was concerned about the children at her school. "A lot of these kids don't have food when they go home. The school is their source for food. I wanted to make sure they were taken care of," she said.
She started packaging meals with the help of two co-workers. "In the beginning we made meals for 75 people. That's 1,125 meals. Then we went up to 300 people. Now we serve more than 1,400 people. This season has taught me that God is faithful. If you stand on His word, He will do what He says He will do."
Yolanda was not looking for fame... but her passion for serving others placed her in the spotlight. Two months ago she was on the cover of TIME Magazine. She was highlighted as a frontline worker national hero.
One Community lets celebrate Yolanda for everything she is doing in the North Texas. She is truly "Here For Good!"
